Senator Cruz, O'Rourke Win Texas Primaries

Cruz's campaign released a 60-second radio advertisement that made fun of O'Rourke by using "Beto" instead of his given name of Robert, CNN reported.

Mr. O'Rourke has been raising more money than Mr. Cruz in recent quarters and has tried to awaken a dormant Democratic vote in rural parts of Texas by relentlessly holding town hall-style meetings.

Cruz said in the interview Wednesday that "some of it is just to have a sense of humor". But as pointed out by Chris Cuomo, Cruz himself goes by Ted although his name is actually Rafael. After saying his full name, Cruz told the story of his father, who immigrated to the United States from Cuba.

Appearing on "New Day" after Cruz, O'Rourke said, "I just don't think that's what folks in Texas want us to focus on". O'Rourke has also stated that "Beto", a popular nickname in El Paso, was given to him by his parents as a baby and it just stuck.

Ahead of Tuesday's primary, the Texas secretary of state's office noted that 465,000 people voted in the Democratic primary, compared with about 420,000 Republicans.

Although there was an increased number of Democratic votes, Cruz's election win seems to disprove the predictions of many major media outlets that the state would turn blue after the election. Cruz is a well-connected incumbent with more cash on hand-about $6 million to O'Rourke's $4.9 million. "We can get into name calling or talk about why the other person's such an bad guy, or we can focus on the big things we want to do for the future of our country".

"You can't rhyme of a "Lone Star man" with 'man, ' you monster!" He's captured the attention of national media and drawn large crowds during his campaign, but in February, a University of Texas / Texas Tribune poll found that almost 40 percent of voters still had never heard of O'Rourke or had no opinion of them.
