Salmonella outbreak linked to kratom, 10 cases in WA so far

Kratom is typically taken as a supplement for its stimulant and opioid substitute properties. Kratom may also be known as Thang, Kakuam, Thom, Ketom, or Biak, and may be consumed as pills, powder, or used to make tea. As of February 16, 2018, 28 people infected with the outbreak strain of Salmonella I 4, [5], 12:b:- have been reported from 20 states.

US officials have linked a salmonella outbreak across the kratom, a plant that is used to treat pain and anxiety and acts like an opioid.
