Ravens to release Danny Woodhead

They also have a lot of running back depth, and on Tuesday they loosened things up a little on both fronts by releasing Danny Woodhead. He had 56 yards on 14 carries and 33 receptions for 200 yards in eight appearances during the 2017 season. Baltimore never really figured out how to properly use Woodhead, and part of that problem traces back to the hamstring injury that kept him sidelined for most of the first half of the season. Woodhead's release saves the team $1.8 million.

"Thanks to the Ravens organization for the past year!" On that possession, Woodhead had three catches for 33 yards and one carry for four yards before leaving with the injury. His success over his three seasons with the Patriots helped pave the way for him to sign a two-year deal with the San Diego Chargers prior to the 2013-14 season. Two of those seasons were severely shortened by injury, as he started just four of the 37 games in which he appeared in with the AFC West franchise.

The move comes after Baltimore re-signed guard/tackle James Hurst on Monday. Baltimore is expected to fill the right tackle spot with either Hurst, Alex Lewis or a draft pick. For the first time since he was limited to just three games in 2014-15 did Woodhead fail to find the end zone in a season.

Woodhead was only set to make a little over $2.5 million this year, and the Ravens will only clear $1.8 million in salary cap space by cutting him.
