Penguins took surprisingly good selfies with explorer's camera

The video of two emperor penguins taking a supposed selfie is going viral

Australian Antarctic expeditioner Eddie Gault left the camera on the ice when visiting the rookery - and it was not long before the naturally inquisitive birds began to seize the opportunity for a selfie.

The Australian Antarctic Division posted the 38-second clip on its Twitter page.

Because everyone has that one friend, another penguin soon nudges its way into the frame. For about half a minute, the two birds chirp and cock their heads inquisitively at the screen, before perking up and shaking their heads repeatedly, as captured in the video.

Now while it isn't technically what you would call a selfie (the penguins neither held the camera or pressed the shutter) we think it's fair to say that the resulting image means gets to be an exception to the rule.

More news: China's February exports surge, trade surplus widens

Wednesday evening the Antarctic Division tweeted out a video of what life is like in Antarctica.

The shot clearly shows a cluster of penguins shuffling past in the background, but one emperor appears to want all the glory.

Two from the North Pole are going viral on the internet after they took selfies on camera left by a human.

I duly moved away and bingo, they moved in, fingering the toy, pressing the buttons and fingering the lens. Later, Slater won the case in 2017 following a two-year legal battle after agreeing to donate a portion of future revenues on the photographs to wildlife organizations.
