One killed, 20 injured as blast targets police in Raiwind

In July a year ago, 26 people, including nine policemen, were martyred and 58 others were injured in a suicide hit on Ferozepur Road.

"The police appear to be the target", Deputy Inspector General Haider Ashraf told local media.

Washington on Thursday offered a $5 million bounty for the Pakistani Taliban militant leader, Mulllah Fazlullah, a day after a suspected US drone strike on a training camp in a remote part of Afghanistan killed his son and more than 20 other militants preparing to launch suicide attacks in Pakistan.

Volunteers move a wounded police officer to a hospital in Lahore, Pakistan, Wednesday, March 14, 2018. He "sought a report from Inspector General Police" and directed the authorities to provide "best possible medical facilities and treatment to the injured persons", read a statement issued by the provincial government.

Ashraf said evidence at the scene suggested a motorcycle was used.

At least eight persons, including four policemen, lost their lives and 20 others have been injured in the suicide blast which targeted a police check post in Raiwind on the outskirts of Lahore, said Punjab Health Minister Salman Rafique. The nature of the blast is not immediately clear. "The condition of some policemen is critical", he said.

Lahore and its surroundings have seen many bomb and suicide attacks in recent years, killing scores.

In April, six people including army personnel were killed in a suicide attack on a census team on Bedian Road.

A spokesman for Jamaat-ur-Ahrar, a faction of the Tehrik-i-Taliban had telephoned Reuters and claimed responsibility for the February 14 attack.

On Easter Sunday in 2016, at least 75 people were killed and hundreds other wounded in a suicide bombing that hit the main entrance of a park.
