Offensive Ad Causes Pop Star to Pound Snapchat Stock

"SNAPCHAT I know you know you ain't my fav app out there!"

The singer tore into the app on Thursday for allowing an offensive ad to appear on its platform.

The "Umbrella" hitmaker was referring to an in-app commercial for a smartphone game called 'Would You Rather?' "She accused the service of "[spending] money to animate something that would intentionally bring shame to domestic violence victims".

The mocking picture featured the face of Rihanna and Brown with the respective options offering to "Slap Rihanna" and "Punch Chris Brown". In 2009, Brown pleaded guilty to physically assaulting Rihanna during an altercation.

In a statement posted to her Instagram Story, she simply wrote, "Throw the who app-oligy away", and it seemed as fans of the app did more than just that as mere hours after her post went live, the app's stock began to fall - hard.

Her words that followed reportedly put an $800 million ding in Snap's market value, as stocks took a sharp hit...

Meanwhile, Snapchat said in a statement that they are "investigating how [the advert] happened so that we can make sure it never happens again".

The incident highlights the dangers of self-service ad platforms, which lets companies buy and submit ads without human negotiation. Not only was this a tone deaf question, considering the women issues in today's world, but when you factor in the couple's history with domestic violence, you get a recipe for disaster.

It was only a few days back that new mother Kylie Jenner posted her criticism over Snapchat's redesign and costed the company $1.3 billion.

"Sooo does anyone else not open Snapchat anymore?" And in February, the app fell by Dollars $1.6 billion after Kylie Jenner sent a tweet calling out the app for its latest format redevelopment.

The company also recently announced it is laying off about 120 engineers.
