Nine CRPF personnel killed in encounter with Maoists in Chhattisgarh

Naxal attack in Sukma, 9 CRPF jawans killed and 6 injured

"My heartfelt condolences to the families of those personnel who lost their lives in Sukma blast".

The encounter started at 8 am on Tuesday between the elite Cobra forces, specially trained to tackle Maoist insurgency, in Kistram area of Sukma.

Aside from the nine soldiers who died in the latest attack, six were injured, four of whom are reported to be critical.

According to reports, the rebels looted arms and ammunition of the security force after the ambush.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh met the injured CRPF personnel in the hospital.

The attack comes days after security forces killed 10 Maoists in an encounter in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur District bordering Telangana. More forces have reached the spot.

The CRPF personnel were carrying out an area-domination operation in the area, when their mine-protected vehicle (MPV) was reportedly blown up. "I spoke to Director General (DG) CRPF regarding the Sukma incident and asked him to leave for Chhattisgarh", he tweeted.

Bodies of all the nine martyrs, who included one Assistant Sub-Inspector, one head constable and seven constables of the 212th battalion of CRPF, had been recovered.

"The troops who came under attack were traveling in the MPV and going towards a newly-opened post in Palodi". In Chattisgarh alone, in the past one year, there have been 272 Maoist-related incidents, with 58 Maoists killed and an equal number of security forces martyred.

"Endangering India's national security is a direct outcome of the Modi government's aimless, irresolute and inconsistent polices".

"Eight paramilitary personnel, belonging to the 212th battalion, were killed in the blast", a paramilitary official was quoted as saying by PTI.

The Congress also said that the attack exposed the hollow claims of Modi government in controlling Maoism, since it came in the same district where 26 CRPF personnel were killed by the ultra-left rebels past year.
