NFL's Trey Burton, Venice High grad, heading to Chicago Bears

Trey Burton Contract Bears will sign TE to 4-year $32M deal

Due largely to the presence of veteran tight ends Zach Ertz and Brent Celek, Burton was only on the field for 27 percent of the offensive snaps, but he made the most of his opportunities, hauling in 23 passes for 248 yards and five touchdowns in 2017.

The Bears will also sign kicker Cody Parkey, who connected on 21 of 23 FG attempts (91.3 percent) previous year for the Miami Dolphins, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. He will be paid as a starter with the Bears.

Realistically, Philadelphia seemed to fully understand that it was only a matter of time before Burton ended up with a new team once the Super Bowl came to an end, and even though deals can't become official until Wednesday afternoon, it looks like the tight end has found a new home with the Chicago Bears. The Ashland University product showed only occasional flashes and finished with 12 receptions for 127 yards (10.6-yard average), although three of his receptions went for touchdowns.

According to published reports, the Bears agreed to a 3-year, $42 million contract with Robinson; and a 4-year, $32 million contract with Burton.

In his second season in Jacksonville in 2015, Robinson caught 80 passes for 1,400 yards, and an NFL-leading 14 touchdowns.

It has been a foregone conclusion that tight end Trey Burton was moving on once free agency started.

Burton took a pitch from Corey Clement and threw a fourth-down touchdown pass to quarterback Nick Foles just before halftime of the Super Bowl, and the so-called Philly Special is now considered the greatest play in Super Bowl history or Eagles history.
