NCAA Tournament: Florida State receives second straight berth

Tigers head basketball coach Cuonzo Martin confirmed the suspension on Sunday night and reinforced that Barnett will not play Friday, March 16 when the Tigers open NCAA Tournament play against Florida State. FSU dropped three of its last four games, including a first-round exit at last week's ACC Tournament, but Leonard Hamilton's team did enough through the course of the season that they still made the field.

Mizzou is the eighth seed in the west and will play the ninth seed Florida State Friday in Nashville.

A spokesman for the University of Missouri Police Department announced Barnett was arrested at 3:26 a.m. local time for failure to drive in a single lane and suspicion of driving while intoxicated.

Porter, a ballyhooed freshman, underwent back surgery after getting hurt in the season opener.

According to Mizzou's student-athlete handbook, any athlete arrested for driving under the influence will be suspended from team activities for at least one week for a first offense. Martin said Barnett would be available Sunday if the Tigers are still in the tournament.

"I was praying to God we didn't end up in Wichita", he said. With a win over Florida State, the Tigers would likely face the No. 1-seeded Xavier Musketeers.

This is Missouri's 27th appearance in the NCAA Tournament, though their 1994 appearance was vacated.

Missouri forward Jordan Barnett could be in a lot of trouble just a few days before the NCAA Tournament begins.

The last NCAA Tournament game the program won was an 86-78 victory over Clemson in 2010.

MU will enter the game with seven scholarship players, and it can't win any battle of attrition if it gets into anything resembling the foul trouble it had against Georgia (Puryear and Jeremiah Tilmon fouled out and Jontay Porter had four). "We get another chance". The senior isn't afraid to shoot, and the Tigers will need to improve their perimeter defense to advance to the second round.

The Tigers earned an at-large bid to the tournament.
