Modi at 'Delhi End TB Summit'

At'End TB Summit PM Modi Aims to Eradicate Tuberculosis by 2025 Causes of TB You Need to Know

Modi said "We have not been successful in curbing Tuberculosis yet".

Taking a dig at the UPA government, the PM pointed out that though immunisation campaigns have been on in the country for the last 35 years, the target of complete immunisation had not been achieved till 2014.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today (Mar 13) launched a campaign to eradicate tuberculosis (TB) from India by 2025, five years ahead of a globally-set deadline.

The new NSP adopts a multi-pronged approach which aims to detect all TB patients with an emphasis on reaching TB patients seeking care from private providers and undiagnosed TB in high-risk populations, treat all patients irrespective of where they seek care adopting a patient-centric approach, prevent emergence of TB in susceptible population groups and build empowered institutions and human resources to streamline implementation, Nadda said. "I would like to announce that we have set an aim to eradicate it from India five years ahead by 2025", Modi said, while inaugurating the Delhi End-TB Summit in the Indian capital.

"A target has been set to end TB globally by 2030".

He launched the TB-free India campaign to take the activities under the National Strategic Plan for TB Elimination forward in a mission mode for eradicating the disease by 2025. Keeping in mind the global target our government will try to end TB from India ahead by 2025.

"Earlier our immunisation coverage was growing at a speed of just one percent".

"The rate of immunisation rose to 6 per cent in the last 3-and-half years and we will achieve 90 per cent immunisation coverage by next year", the PM said.

India will play a historic role in eradicating the disease which was affecting the poor mostly, he said.

The Summit, will be co-hosted by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, WHO South East Asia Regional Office (SEARO) and Stop TB Partnership.

Most of victims of TB in India are the poor and hence every step taken to wipe out TB should be linked directly to their lives, the Prime Minister said adding that the current Union Budget has proposed to set aside US$100 million to provide nutritional support to TB patients. While the United Nations High-Level Meeting on TB will be held in September, this year and future course of action will be decided in the UN General Assembly.
