Microsoft to set up two data centres in the UAE

The giant has deepened their expertise in the Middle East particularly in Abu Dhabi and in Dubai.

Microsoft has announced it is setting up two data centres in the UAE, in partnership with Etisalat.

The Microsoft Cloud will offer enterprise-grade reliability and performance as well as data residency from datacenters, targeting an initial availability of 2019. "We have seen a huge uptake in the demand for digital transformation from our customers in the region, so these data centres are created to aid them with their proximity and services offerings". The new announcement expands Azure regions to 50 regions across the globe, which includes plans for 12 new regions. The Microsoft Cloud has also opened for business in France at three data centres in Paris and one in Marseilles, offering Azure and Office 365 services. "The new cloud services enable customers to digitally transform their businesses empowered by Microsoft's global network and the latest innovative services while meeting their compliance requirements to store customer data in Germany", said Sabine Bendiek, Area Vice President, Microsoft Germany. Etisalat is also consulting on migration and managed services to see to the smooth transition of business customers to the cloud.

Although Microsoft does not reveal earnings by region, previous year it reported that the Middle East and Africa is one of the fastest growing regions in the world for its cloud computing business.

Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) will open its first data centers in the Middle East next year. "The strength of Microsoft's cloud combined with Etisalat's own advanced infrastructure and reliable connectivity will be instrumental in accelerating cloud adoption in the UAE and the Middle East".
