Med Students learn their fates on Match Day

LSU Health Shreveport School of Medicine Match Day

Fifty-four graduating students from the TTUHSC School of Medicine in Amarillo will participate in the annual Match Day ceremony.

After opening their envelopes, each of the 53 students placed a push pin on a map to show everyone exactly where they will start their career.

A complex algorithm, administered by the NRMP, factors in the preferences of the students with the preferences of residency programs in order to match students and training programs. USA medical students filled less than 45 percent of those residencies.

"Our students continue to match with wonderful programs in Florida and throughout the country", said College of Medicine Dean John P. Fogarty.

"The program has everything that I'm looking for".

Fifty-three percent of Rockford students will be heading into primary care specialties, including family medicine, internal medicine, and pediatrics.

The new group of LSUHS residents will be welcomed to Shreveport in July, where they will train at University Health and other partner hospitals.

Thousands of medical students in the United States opened sealed envelopes at noon to find out if they were accepted into of one of the residency programs they had applied for. Half of the students matched with primary care specialties like family medicine and pediatrics with almost two-thirds of the students staying in the Midwest.

Students then rank their preferred residency programs through the National Resident Matching Program® (NRMP®), or The Match®.
