Margot Robbie Confirmed for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood

Margot Robbie

As if landing Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio for the two leads wasn't enough, Quentin Tarantino's ninth movie is now in final negotiations for Margot Robbie to star as Sharon Tate.

Margot Robbie arrives at the British Academy of Film and Television Awards (BAFTA) at the Royal Albert Hall in London, Britain, February 18, 2018. And stay tuned for updates.

As Deadline notes, the film will be similar to Tarantino's cult classic Pulp Fiction, as its set in 1969 Los Angeles, aka "the height of hippy Hollywood". Both are trying to make it in Hollywood.

At the time of her murder, Sharon was married to controversial filmmaker Roman Polanski. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood will weave the real Tate into the lives of the fictional Rick and Cliff, who, in the movie, live next door to the actress. "And I couldn't be happier about the dynamic teaming of DiCaprio and Pitt as Rick and Cliff".

Robbie has been the major pick for the role of Tate for a while, following reports Jennifer Lawrence was rejected because Tate's family thought she was "not pretty enough". Robbie is coming off of her own Oscar-nominated turn, for I, Tonya, her first nomination.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood will be Tarantino's first movie for Sony Pictures since the end of his relationship with The Weinstein Company in 2017.

Once Upon A Time In Hollywood will be released on 9 August next year, marking exactly 50 years since Tate's death.
