José Mourinho attacks 'worst manager' De Boer for Rashford comments

"I read some quote from the worst manager in the history of the Premier Leauge, Frank de Boer", Mourinho began.

De Boer suggested Mourinho was not the right manager to nurture Rashford's talents, with Mourinho quick to pour scorn on the views of a coach who has failed in his last two jobs at Inter Milan and Palace.

The 20-year-old has played in 27 Premier League matches this season, however just a handful of those appearances have seen him complete the full 90 minutes, with new signing Alexis Sanchez seen by many as yet another threat to any sort of continued inclusion.

De Boer made the comments after Rashford scored both goals in United's 2-1 win over Liverpool at Old Trafford at the weekend. He wants to get results, ' he said on BT Sport.

"He's very young, he needs games".

"If Marcus would be coached by Frank, he would learn how to lose".

Nobody at Monday's press conference previewing the crunch Champions League last-16 clash with Sevilla could have foreseen the Portuguese publicly eviscerating the former Crystal Palace manager.

De Boer was appointed Palace manager last summer on a three-year deal but was sacked just four games into the season and replaced by Roy Hodgson.

And while Scot McTominay and Jesse Lingard offer a particular set of skills that perhaps fit into Jose Mourinho's somewhat rigid style more adequately, Marcus Rashford is proving to be the WOW element and the dazzling factor Manchester United have not had in a long time. "The best thing that can happen to a kid is experiences and Marcus is having these".

Southgate has discussed Rashford's progress with the man at the helm at Old Trafford, and Mourinho insists the England boss is satisfied with the current state of affairs. Of course not but he is a player that we trust. "The more you do, the easier the results come on the pitch.", Rashford said after the Liverpool game. We have eight matches still to play and 24 points to play for (in the Premier League). I said that before the Liverpool match when many of you were maybe not expecting him to start. "Analysing a performance for me is more than number of goals or assists, and for me I'm really happy with Marcus".
