Here's The "Violent Video Game Reel" Trump Shared At The White House

Mnuchin Says Tariffs Will Benefit US Despite Retaliation Risk

The official White House YouTube channel uploaded a 1 minute 28 second video showing titled "Violence in Video Games" - showing clips from a number of video games from recent years, in an effort to showcase how violent games can be.

"Blaming video games for violence in the real world is no more productive than blaming the news media for bringing violent crime into our homes night after night", argues the ESA, the industry's trade group, in materials it provides online.

It will not be the first time video game-makers have been called to the White House in the wake of a school shooting.

"As we continue to work towards creating school safety programs that protect all children, the president will be meeting with video game industry leaders and Members of Congress to discuss violent video-game exposure and the correlation to aggression and desensitization in children", the spokesperson said.

The statement paints a pretty positive picture of the meeting, although another attendee, Media Research Council President Brent Bozell told The Washington Post that Trump was clearly uncomfortable with depictions of violence in video games.

Meanwhile, Florida Senator Marco Rubio contradicted this, telling The Washington Post that he acknowledges there's no link between video games and violence. He's been criticized for oversimplifying the issues in his books, which try to paint video games as the primary reason why children become killers.

The Entertainment Software Association, which includes Electronic Arts, Activision Blizzard, Nintendo, and Sony was part of the White House meeting.

"I like conflict", Trump said Tuesday, addressing staff turnover at the White House.

"Video games are plainly not the issue: entertainment is distributed and consumed globally, but the United States has an exponentially higher level of gun violence than any other nation", said Dan Hewitt, a spokesman for lobby group the Entertainment Software Association, earlier.

The president's viewpoint is sharply challenged by the video game industry, whose leaders came to the White House Thursday along with one of its most vocal critics, the Parents Television Council (PTC).

So, really, the question is whether violent videogames is causing mass shootings or it's just the availability of guns - and the answer is pretty obvious.

The conversation lasted for nearly an hour and was "vigorous" but "respectful", and Trump seemed to be interested in hearing from all sides, said Melissa Henson of the Parents Television Council, a group that advocates against violence and sex in entertainment.

The ESA released a statement after the meeting, which stands by the study-backed notion that there's no correlation between video games and violence.

First off, the meeting began with a string of violent video game clips, which reportedly left a few people stunned in silence. Following that shooting the National Rifle Association singled out video games as the true danger to society. Bad, bad video games.

This week, Trump ramped up his charade of a crusade, despite the fact that no link between video games and violence has ever been established. "The process by which the ratings are applied is secretive, those who administer them are accountable to nobody; and parents have no real recourse when they are misapplied", Henson said.

In another review of over 1,000 studies, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Psychological Association, and the American Medical Association all declared in the summary of their findings that evidence points "overwhelmingly to a causal connection between media violence and aggressive behavior in some children".
