The new show will reimagine the pair as Los Angeles police detectives, with Cagney as "easygoing" and Lacey as "straightforward" and "experienced".

In its reboot, Grey's Anatomy star Sarah Drew has been roped in to star as Chris Cagney in CBS' upcoming drama pilot.

Drew, who will be playing Cagney to Hurd's Lacey in the pilot, took to Twitter on Tuesday to celebrate her new gig. Sharon Gless and Tyne Daly, respectively, starred as the title characters in CBS' 1981-88 original series and three 1990s TV-movies, which were set in NY.

Bridget Carpenter will write and executive produce the "Cagney & Lacey" pilot, with CBS Television Studios producing along with MGM Television.

The original series won two Emmy Awards for the Best Drama and six Best Actress in a Drama Series awards - four for Daly and two for Gless.

Naturally, we still have a bit of time with Drew's April Kepner before the 14th season of Grey's wraps.

Additionally, Deadline reports that the actress could soon become the highest paid female TV star, as it's rumored her new salary would reach more the $550,000 per episode. Like most non-original cast members, she started on the show as recurring - in Season 6 - before being promoted to a series regular the following season.

Drew's departure from "Grey's", along with longtime castmate Jessica Capshaw, came to light last week, when it was reported that producers did not renew their contracts due to the show's "creative direction". Evil Dead, is with APA and TMT Entertainment Group.
