Four Muslim MPs sent suspicious packages at Westminster

Suspicious package sent to Muslim MP at Parliament 'linked to Punish a Muslim Day'

Labour MP for Bedford Mohammad Yasin received a package on Monday. "Two people - a man and a woman - have been taken to a central London hospital as a "precaution", The Independent reports citing London's Metropolitan Police as saying".

"The issue of anti Muslim and far-right extremism is a focus for the government", she said, pointing to the government's anti-radicalisation programme, Prevent, which she said did not focus just on Islamic radicalisation but other forms of extremism, including of the far right.

One of her staff members who was hospitalised after coming in contact with the package has since been released.

The spokesman said there were no reported injuries and inquiries were continuing.

Muslim groups warned last week of a campaign of racist "punish a Muslim" letters received by Muslims in several British cities. It was the letter that did the rounds at weekend and subject of Parliamentary urgent question yesterday which was received.

People living in East London, Bradford, Leicester, Cardiff and Sheffield have reported receiving the letters printed on A4 paper detailing a points system for awarding different acts of violence specifically targeting Muslims living in Britain.

Officers are thought to have been concerned that the "malicious communication" was linked to letters sent to Muslims in London, Yorkshire and the Midlands in recent days calling for April 3 to be Punish a Muslim Day.

The leaflets, reported in West Yorkshire, Midlands, London, Cardiff, Leicester, Sheffield and Birmingham, carried an image of a dagger with the letters MS, indicating links to so-called Muslim Slayer which targeted mosques in London and the United States a year ago with similar threats, the Mirror reported.

"I have been contacted by a number of people who are anxious about the racist literature that was sent to my office today", Yasin wrote on Facebook.

'We assessed two people at the scene and took them to hospital'.

Officers were called to the parliamentary estate on Monday and again on Tuesday. The MPs in question have said the packages came with aggressive letters attacking their religion. "These letters seek to cause fear and offence among our Muslim communities". They have been branded a "blatant incitement to terrorism" by some MPs.
