Ex-Trump aide testified that her email was hacked

Former White House communications director Hope Hicks told the House Intelligence Committee last week that an email account of hers was hacked, NBC News reported Wednesday.

According to NBC, Hicks could not access two of her accounts, one being her personal account and the other was the one she used during the presidential campaign.

Hicks is a key figure in the Russian Federation investigation due to her closeness to the president since the start of his 2016 campaign. She mentioned two accounts during her testimony, one personal and another that she had used during Trump's 2016 presidential campaign, but did not immediately clarify which one had been hacked.

Hicks's communications have come under scrutiny by both the House Intelligence Russia investigation and the investigation of special counsel Robert Mueller, who reportedly interviewed Hicks in December.

Four people familiar with Hicks' testimony told NBC that she "portrayed herself as not savvy in matters of technology".

Hicks' correspondence - and that of others who worked on the Trump campaign - has been a subject of interest for special counsel Robert Mueller, who is running the investigation into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation, as well as possible obstruction of justice by Trump associates.

Hicks, who has worked for Donald Trump in various capacities since 2014, appeared before the House Intelligence Committee investigating Russian election-meddling on February 28 and was grilled by lawmakers for almost seven hours. The report did not give any indication whether the Committee asked about - lawmakers had little leverage over the former adviser because she was testifying voluntarily. Mueller recently sent a subpoena to former Trump aide Sam Nunberg ordering Nunberg to turn over documents relating in any way to 10 current and former Trump associates, including Hicks.
