Dolphins reportedly set to release superstar Ndamukong Suh, seeking 'culture change'

Miami is expected to release veteran defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh and the move could come as early as today, according to Jeff Darlington of ESPN.

Here's how the move affects the Dolphins' financial standing.

Cutting Suh will save the Dolphins almost $17 million in cap room but create a monster $22-plus million dead cap hit, according to Spotrac.

In midseason past year, the Dolphins traded running back Jay Ajayi to the Eagles. However, the Dolphins would not be able to use that money for three months.

Suh has been with the Dolphins the past two seasons after signing a monster six-year, $114.375 million deal with the team.

Cutting Suh two days after trading Landry to the Browns is reportedly a precursor to an aggressive free-agent period ahead for the Dolphins - though they still have work to do with their cap, where cutting Suh barely gets them back in black. Although it is hard for any defensive player to live up to that type of money, Suh performed at a high level for the Dolphins each season he was in Miami.

Moreover, Darlington reports that the impending release of Suh is the next step in coach Adam Gase's attempt to rebuild the culture in his locker room. Releasing Suh now would save the Dolphins just $3.9 million against the cap. The 31-year-old finished with 29 tackles and 4.5 sacks in 16 games.

This morning, Suh posted a video on Twitter telling fans to "stay tuned, there will be some exciting news going on". Meanwhile, the Dolphins don't seem to want any sort of talent on their football team next season.
