The "Flava in Ya Ear" hitmaker died of heart failure at a hospital near his Walterboro, S.C., home according to his longtime producer Alvin Toney.

Mack, who hailed from Brentwood, NY, started writing his own songs when he was 12 years old.

Craig Mack, who found fame as a rapper with Diddy's Bad Boy Records in the 1990s, has passed away at the age of 46.

Mack's huge 1994 hit, 'Flava, ' earned him a Best Rap Solo Grammy nomination, although he lost to Queen Latifah.

According to Colleton County Coroner Richard Harvey, Mack died at his home in Walterboro around 9 p.m. EST on Monday, March 13.

Craig Mack released two albums in the 90s - Project: Funk da World and Operation: Get Down. Harvey said it appeared Mack died of natural causes.

Mack returned to music in 2017 and released an album. "It was something I wanted people to enjoy, but it was cut short because he was very religious and wanted to go to church", Toney said. "He wasn't scared. He was ready".

"About 3 months ago or so, I finally got ahold of [Mack] and we talked on the phone for over an hour", Mo Bee wrote on Instagram.

Hip Hop DJs Funkmaster Flex and DJ Scratch took to social media to confirm his passing and share their condolences.

"Then a few years later he went on to make one of the biggest most iconic songs in Hip Hop history. Rest In Peace Lil Bro".

Released nearly 25 years ago in 1994, it tore the roof off of Hip Hop thanks to its all-star remix that featured LL Cool J, Busta Rhymes, The Notorious B.I.G. and Rampage.

Craig Mack is survived by his wife and two children.
