Controversial Saudi prince Mohammed Bin Salman heads to White House

Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman

"Women wear decent, respectful clothing, like men", bin Salman continued. Women can now watch sports games and go to the movies, join the military and are no longer required to wear a black abaya ― the robe that covers a woman's body from head to toe ― in public. "The decision is entirely left for women to decide what type of decent and respectful attire she chooses to wear".

Interviewer Norah O'Donnell pressed bin Salman on rights women are still denied, including the country's guardianship laws that require women to ask permission from a male guardian to do things like apply for a passport or get married. "We are working on an initiative, which we will launch in the near future, to introduce regulations ensuring equal pay for men and women".

The cleric further emphasized that the crimes of the Saudi regime in Iraq are clear to everyone, adding that the Iraqi people are angry with Riyadh's ongoing pressure on their country and will stand against it and will not allow the Saudi regime to achieve its goals in Iraq.

Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman plans to meet top global executives, including the heads of Apple Inc. and Google, during his first trip to the US since becoming heir to the throne of the world's largest oil exporter, according to a person briefed on the trip's details.

"We were living a very normal life like the rest of the Gulf countries", Salman said.

In 2017, Saudi authorities lifted a ban on driving cars for women. "Many of those ideas contradict the way of life during the time of the Prophet and the Caliphs".

A Saudi Embassy spokesman in Washington declined to confirm the itinerary and said official details would be released later.

He said the money that the government restored, exceeded US$100 billion (Dh367bn). He also added that he spends a part of his income on charity. "I spend at least 51 percent on people and 49 on myself".

Asked about the humanitarian toll, Prince Mohammed said: "It is truly very painful, and I hope that this militia [Houthis] ceases using the humanitarian situation to their advantage in order to draw sympathy from the global community". Fighting between the Houthi movement, supported by Iran, and Yemeni government forces, backed by the Saudis and the U.A.E., has claimed almost 10,000 lives and left the country on the verge of a disastrous starvation. Prince Mohammed said Iran played a destructive role in Yemen.

In comments aired before the interview, the Saudi Crown Prince stood by his comparison of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei to Adolf Hitler.

"Its army is not among the top five armies in the Muslim world".

Prince Mohammed was named heir to the throne of the desert kingdom nine months ago and has grown increasingly powerful in its government.

The partners announced major contracts worth more than $380 billion - including $110 billion for the sale of American arms to Saudi Arabia, aimed at countering what they see as a threat from Iran and radical Islamists.

The trip begins with a meeting at the White House with U.S. president Donald Trump on Tuesday, a major hurdle that if bypassed, will pave the way for major business deals.
