CDC: Missing employee received early promotion

Tim Cunningham still missing; CDC marks one month since employee vanished

"We have not given up hope that he will soon be found", Schuchat wrote. However, the CDC said February 27 that the epidemiologist had received a promotion, but was upset that it wasn't the one he wanted, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

News reports and investigators have said Dr. Cunningham told co-workers February 12 he wasn't feeling well and had been denied a promotion. Schuchat, now acting director of the CDC, issued a statement on March 12 about missing CDC employee Timothy Cunningham.

As many of his colleagues...have pointed out, this information is incorrect.

After leaving work and telling co-workers that he wasn't feeling well, he reportedly called his mother at around 9:12 a.m. on that day, but he did not leave a voicemail when she was not able to pick up.

His concerned parents found his wallet, auto and beloved pet all abandoned at Cunningham's Atlanta area home.

Now a $15,000 reward is being offered for anyone with information leading to an arrest or indictment. Chafee said, "Our information came directly from the CDC".

"In fact", the CDC statement continued, "he received an early promotion/exceptional proficiency promotion to Commander effective July 1, 2017, in recognition of his exemplary performance".

The investigation into Cunningham's disappearance is still underway.

Authorities have said no evidence of foul play was involved in Cunningham's disappearance.

Anyone with information surrounding Timothy Cunningham's disappearance is urged to contact Atlanta police at 404-546-4235. "We want him to return to his loved ones and his work - doing what he does best as a CDC disease detective - protecting people's health".

Monday's statement from the CDC surely validates the family's efforts to set the record straight, stating "over and above any of his assignments at CDC, his early promotion within the United States Public Health Service reflects his excellence as an officer and an employee".
