Bills Trade Glenn; move up in draft

Bengals trade for Bills OT Cordy Glenn

The Cincinnati Bengals acquired veteran offensive tackle Cordy Glenn from the Buffalo Bills, ESPN's Josina Anderson reported Monday. The Bengals also get the Bills' fifth-round pick (No. 158) and the Bills get the Bengals' sixth-round pick (187th). So, The Bengals move from pick number 12 to pick number 21 in the first round.

The 28-year-old Glenn has been Buffalo's starting left tackle since entering the National Football League as a second-round pick in 2012 but a foot injury limited him to six games last season.

Glenn played just five games past year because of foot and ankle problems, so the Bills know how to play without him. On the other hand, if Glenn turns into a star, the Bengals have him under contract for the next three years at just $30 million, which is a bargain for a starting left tackle.

Having the 12th overall pick should allow the team to have a better selection of quarterbacks in the first round if that's how it wants to replace Taylor.

As for the Bills, they'll pick up roughly $4.85 million in cap space for 2018 with the trade. The Bills had been looking to unload Glenn and the Bengals were in desperate need of an upgrade at the offensive tackle position. Dawkins started 11 games last season as a rookie in place of Glenn. More important to them is dumping Glenn's salary, who has a base salary of $9.25 million in 2018 with a $2 million roster bonus on top of that. A big hit that they will take is his contract, but it will be worth it if Glenn can keep defenders off of Dalton.

The Bills have been at the center of high-profile trades for the past several months now going back to last season when they dealt Sammy Watkins. He missed five games and played a career-low 657 snaps in 2016.
