Aussies hope to beat Indian eves in ODI series

The Aussie women chased down the target in 32.1 overs for the loss of two wickets with Nicole Bolton scoring a 101-ball 100.

Bolton was awarded Player of the Match for her match-winning knock.

Opting to bat first, India's opening batting order collapsed and Pooja Vastrakar scored the maiden half-century of her ODI career, thus becoming the first Indian woman player to hit a fifty at number nine. In the World Cup, she was dismissed by the slow outswing of Megan Schutt and the off-spin of Ashleigh Gardener. However, Mandhana was trapped in front of the wicket by Amanda-Jade Wellington in the first ball of the 10th over, giving the leg-spinner the first of her three wickets.

She added, "We had some pretty good matches there against the India A side and we are obviously aware that the quality probably isn't quite there what we are going to face out here, so we are making adjustments to what we think we are going to face out there".

Poonam Raut and Smriti Mandhana got India off to a bright start with a flurry of boundaries, but the spinners pegged them back. The Australian coach, however, said his team had an attack that could do well in any conditions. Bolton's opening partner Alyssa Healy made 38 and captain Meg Lanning 33 before being run out. We have always played with 2-3 fast bowlers, like you must have seen in South Africa, we went in with three fast bowlers.

"We knew it was going to be a really hard series coming over here and facing India in their home conditions", said Bolton. Nor did the one-sided fields India employed help; a defensive tactic will rarely win a game that needs early wickets. "She has been performing well all these years", he said.

Bolton was the common denominator in three consecutive 50-run stands, getting to her fourth ODI 100 with Australia needing four runs to win. "I was really disappointed with the contribution in that match, and was determined to go out there and play positively".

The Australians were disciplined with the ball with the spinners taking eight wickets.

One of the features of her innings was the way she swept. England chased down 205 against Sri Lanka in the 2017 Women's CWC in only 30.2 overs.
