Apple Maps now includes bike sharing data for more than 175 cities

As reported by TechCrunch, Apple was able to seamlessly include information for many bike sharing services by integrating the data from Ito World, instead of doing the work on its own.

Ito World has helped out with so many companies to license and normalize bike-sharing data.

This means users may now key in "bike sharing" in the search bar of the app, and they will be presented with data on the nearest station of a bike-sharing service. Typing "Bike sharing" into Apple Maps' search bar will find the stations of the local service, so you'll know where to pick up and drop off a bike. The app previously contained limited information on bike-sharing services in a handful of cities.

However, Apple Maps' new feature will shine when any bikers travel a new town and want to explore on a human-powered pair of wheels. It is expected that these features will come with future updates, or else there isn't much benefit to switching to Apple Maps with apps like Mobike, Ofo, and oBike in the market.

With this update, you can type "bike sharing" in any city and find the name of the service and the location of the closest station.

Apple Maps doesn't actually tell you the number of bikes available.

Despite its shortcomings, the latest Apple Maps update is remarkable in the sense that it shows how the Cupertino giant is dedicated to improving the user experience of its mapping service. We can say now that Apple Maps could be a good option for your local area.
