Amit Shah scores inadvertent self-goal, calls 'Yeddyurappa govt most corrupt'

But when you're a political leader attacking the rival party at a press conference called just minutes after the Election Commission had announced Assembly Elections, a gaffe can become an embarrassing self-goal.

"Siddaramaiah asks what has the Modi government done for Karnataka".

BJP president Amit Shah today accused the Siddaramaiah government in Karnataka of trying to divide Hindus and being the "most corrupt" one in the country.

On Tuesday, the Election Commission announced the Karnataka Assembly Election dates, with polling take place on May 12 and counting on May 15.

Alleging that Siddaramaiah even tried to bring "mutts" and temples under the government control, the BJP chief said it was given up following opposition to the move.

For the BJP's massive anti-corruption plank in Karnataka, however, the irony lies in finding it hard to escape the "corrupt" tag as far as Yeddyurappa, the party's big hope in the state, is concerned. Mr. Shah corrected the statement after Dharwad MP Pralhad Joshi immediately brought the mistake to his notice.

Shah committed a faux pas when he said, "If there is a contest for the most corrupt government, then the Yeddyurappa government will finish first" and was quick to correct himself, saying he meant chief minister Siddaramaiah. "He says Yeddyurappa ran the most corrupt Govt ever", tweeted Gandhi. He wanted to slam current chief Minister of Congress CM K Siddaramaiah but took B S Yeddyurappa's name as most corrupt. Divya Spandana Ramya the social media head of Congress posted another video - without a date or location - sayng: "This isn't the first time btw- what exactly are Amit Shah's feelings towards yedyurappa?"

The Karnataka cabinet had recently made a decision to recommend to the Centre over according religious minority tag to Lingayats and Veerashaiva Lingayats, apparently to cut into the vote bank of the BJP, which significantly banks on their support.

The cases of farmers suicide reported in the states ruled by BJP were the results of "depression and personal issues", Shah said.

BJP hit back with its Karnataka cell tweeting it was "silly" of the Congress president to base his campaign on a slip of the tongue.
