Amanda Nunes vs. Raquel Pennington Bantamweight Title Fight at UFC 224

Amanda Nunes vs. Raquel Pennington official for UFC 224

The women's bantamweight title will be on the line come May 12, when Amanda Nunes and Raquel Pennington face off at UFC 224 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

However, it seems they've opted to just proceed with this match-up instead and it'll see the 29-year-old Nunes attempting to defend her 135lb title for the third time, having already defeated Ronda Rousey and Valentina Shevchenko during her current reign. The main card will air on pay-per-view at 10 p.m. ET while the preliminary card will air on FOX Sports 1 at 8 p.m. ET and the promotion's streaming service, UFC Fight Pass. But, on Thursday, the UFC announced that Nunes - Pennington will headline UFC 224. That fight went down at UFC 205 back in 2016.

The showdown between UFC champions Amanda Nunes and Cris Cyborg will have to wait - if it happens at all.

Nunes, who grew up in a small town outside Salvador, Brazil, will enter the fight with an overall mixed martial arts record of 15-4.

Her opponent, Raquel Pennington is on a very impressive four fight win streak and most definitely deserves her shot. Following Cyborg's TKO win over Yana Kunitskaya this past Saturday, White said he would consider making the super fight next. However, Cyborg expressed when asked about that possibility that it was just too soon. Nunes wants the fight, she wants the fight, I want the fight, I'm sure the fans want to see it, too. A pair of middleweight bouts - Vitor Belfort versus Lyoto Machida and Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza versus Kelvin Gastelum - are also slated to take place at the event.
