AJ McCarron lands starting opportunity with Bills, signs 2-year deal

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback AJ Mc Carron looks to pass in the second half of an NFL football game against the Chicago Bears Sunday Dec. 10 2017 in Cincinnati

McCarron's signing comes after several veteran quarterbacks had found new teams in free agency this week, leaving Buffalo as perhaps the only remaining team which could offer him a chance to start this season.

McCarron and Nathan Peterman top the Bills' depth chart at quarterback for the moment, but it is possible Buffalo could target a QB in the upcoming draft.

Buffalo traded starting QB Tyrod Taylor to the Browns earlier this month. Over the last two seasons, the former Alabama quarterback has thrown only 14 passes in regular season games. His career stats are as follows: 64.7 comp pct., 920 yards, 6 TDs, 2 INTs, 93.6 rating with a 2-2 record, including a loss in the 2015 wild-card game.

The 27-year-old spent the past four seasons backing up Andy Dalton in Cincinnati after being selected by the Bengals in the fifth round of the 2014 draft.

As things stand, McCarron is still a free agent.

Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane sat back and watched as the quarterback market went insane at the start of National Football League free agency. His lack of playing time and tape for teams to watch is a big part of why he has failed to get a longterm deal locked down. McCarron was also almost traded to Cleveland last season, but the deal fell through after the Browns failed to submit the paperwork on time. 21 and 158) to the Bengals for the Nos.
