AJ McCarron lands starting opportunity with Bills, signs 2-year deal

McCarron's signing comes after several veteran quarterbacks had found new teams in free agency this week, leaving Buffalo as perhaps the only remaining team which could offer him a chance to start this season.

McCarron and Nathan Peterman top the Bills' depth chart at quarterback for the moment, but it is possible Buffalo could target a QB in the upcoming draft.

Buffalo traded starting QB Tyrod Taylor to the Browns earlier this month. Over the last two seasons, the former Alabama quarterback has thrown only 14 passes in regular season games. His career stats are as follows: 64.7 comp pct., 920 yards, 6 TDs, 2 INTs, 93.6 rating with a 2-2 record, including a loss in the 2015 wild-card game.

The 27-year-old spent the past four seasons backing up Andy Dalton in Cincinnati after being selected by the Bengals in the fifth round of the 2014 draft.

As things stand, McCarron is still a free agent.
