Agent RB Jerick McKinnon to leave Vikings for 49ers

49ers to Extend $30.5M Deal to Former Vikings Running Back McKinnon

He'll be the league's fourth-highest paid back in making $7.5 million a year. His athleticism, intelligence and attitude are a ideal fit for our scheme.

National Football League insider Adam Schefter tweeted Wednesday morning that Jerick McKinnon has agreed to a 4-year, $30 million deal with the San Francisco 49ers.

"Jerick has proven to be an extremely versatile football player whose speed, elusiveness and tackle-breaking ability make him a very hard matchup for defenses", Lynch said. But we'll get to that.

As the tweet mentions, the deal is a four-year, $30 million agreement. He also added 94 receptions for 676 yards with four touchdown catches since 2016.

The 25-year-old had 570 rushing yards and three touchdowns in 2017 - both career highs.

McKinnon figures to be the top option to start, barring a move in the 2018 NFL Draft, and can be a unsafe cog in coach Kyle Shanahan's offense.

Richburg (6-4, 300) was originally drafted by the New York Giants in the second round (43 overall) of the 2014 NFL Draft. He began his career as a left guard before moving to center in 2015.

The 49ers have an immediate need in the backfield with former starter Carlos Hyde leaving to join the Cleveland Browns.

The San Francisco 49ers aren't done building yet. The Niners signed Garoppolo to a five-year deal last month before he even hit free agency, signed cornerback Richard Sherman after he was cut by Seattle, re-signed defensive lineman Cassius Marsh and offensive lineman Garry Gilliam and gave an extension to receiver Marquise Goodwin.

ESPN first reported the deal. Jerick McKinnon is the pass-catching piece that head coach Kyle Shanahan needs for his offensive system - and one the 49ers' backfield lacked in 2017.
