WPP drops charity event after sexual misconduct claims

I see that, according to the FT, WPP hosted a table at the now notorious Presidents Club Charity Dinner the other evening.

The Great Ormond Street Hospital, which treats seriously ill children, said in a statement that it was "shocked" by the reported behavior at the dinner and that it would return any previous donations it had received from the event.

Dragons Den star Peter Jones, comedian David Walliams, and Ocado boss Tim Steiner were all invited to the event.

The Financial Times reports that a total of 360 figures from British politics, finance and entertainment attended.

Described on the night as the "most un-PC event of the year", The Presidents Club Charity Dinner, the FT reports, has been on the London social calendar for 33 years and gone largely uncovered by news media.

Senior lawmakers in Britain's Parliament on Wedneday Jan. 24, 2018 demanded tougher laws against harassment, after a Financial Times investigation found that women were groped at a men-only charity gala attended by hundreds of senior executives.

Ms Marriage said that the 130 hostesses were told to wear skimpy black outfits with matching underwear and high heels and also that they could drink alcohol while working.

They, and hostesses they spoke to, relayed accounts of frequent groping by attendees, an incident of indecent exposure, "lewd comments", and other sexual harassment and inappropriate behaviour.

"One of the strangest things was you could be talking to a man and he would suddenly start holding your hand".

Sir Martin was not at this year's event and said: "I have never seen anything like that".

When two FT journalists went undercover as hostesses they were asked to sign non-disclosure agreements.

"As an organisation one of our guiding principles is everyday equality, and we apply that to all areas of our work".

After filling her glass with champagne he then pulled her against his stomach and said: "I want you to down that glass, rip off your knickers and dance on that table".

What lots were up for auction?

Walliams, who is also a successful children's author, tweeted Wednesday that he left London's Dorchester Hotel once he had finished his presenting duties at the dinner and did not witness any of the reported misconduct.

The glossy auction catalogue distributed to attendees during the evening included multiple images of Marilyn Monroe dressed in revealing, tight dresses.

What has happened since the allegations?

A spokesperson from the Dorchester Hotel told CN: "We are deeply concerned regarding the allegations levelled at the organisers of a private event held at the hotel".

A spokesman for the club told Business Insider: "The trustees have decided that the Presidents Club will not host any further fundraising events".

The event's organiser stepped down from a government advisory position in the wake of the report. Investigations would be conducted, it said, and appropriate action taken.

"It is quite extraordinary to me that in the 21st century allegations of this kind are still emerging", said Anne Milton, junior education minister, during the debate. Meller runs the luxury good specialist Meller Group, and also sits on the board of the Department for Education and the Mayor's Fund for London, Ritchie is a property developer who founded Residential Land, and Soning is also a property developer.

The Presidents Club Charitable Trust was founded 32 years ago to raise money for underprivileged children, and has made donations to numerous children's charities over the last 10 years, including Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity.

She added: "We would never knowingly accept donations raised in this way".

"All monies raised in our name go to support vital work".
