What Happens During Blackout at World's Biggest Tech Show

Companies like Amazon, Microsoft, and Google, will take a rest from promoting their voice assistants to hit up partnerships with third-parties.

Google is trying to make a splash at the world's largest electronics trade show, blanketing Las Vegas with advertisements and its share of new gizmos that can be controlled by its Google Assistant.

The website of the Consumer Technology Association, the organizer of the CES that opens in Las Vegas on Tuesday, features the list of keynote speakers at this year's CES who will address key trends and technologies.

Carlos Ghosn of Nissan said it best: "We will see more change in the next 10 years than we did in the last 50". One example in this regard is South Korean tech giant LG, which is expected to debut an advanced television set operated by Google Assistant, one of the leading artificial intelligence devices now in the market; in fact, quite a few other tech firms plan to incorporate Google Assistant into their products.

Amazon stole the show at last year's CES, with manufacturers announcing a wide range of new integrations between their products and Alexa. The marquee names stay firms such as Panasonic and Sony due to numerous top technology players such as Apple, Facebook and Amazon like to maintain a shallow profile in the show.

Although a handful of announcements were made before this week's event, press previews began on 7 January and announcements will run until 12 January.

About a dozen self-driving vehicles from automakers like Ford, Mercedes-Benz and Nissan will be at this year's show. Storage devices and other accessories will also hold its place in the show.

We can expect to see more products and solutions to safeguard these smart devices from hacking.

For the first time, CES has an area devoted to smart cities, with more than 40 companies set to exhibit. The trade group expects similarly stratospheric numbers this year, with unit sales approaching 44 million in the USA alone. In a bid to get consumers to upgrade sooner, higher-end models will come with fancy technologies going by such names as "4K", "HDR" and "OLED".

Robots have been a mainstay on the CES show floor, but they are much more of a novelty than an actual item. We're talking way more than heart rates or step counts, think health tags that can disappear into various pieces of clothing, new devices that can monitor how healthy your hair is, or even a mod for your phone that can track blood pressure, SPO2 and more.
