Van Jones on Oprah's 2020 chances: 'She can do it'

InfoWars

Winfrey made headlines on Sunday night for her Golden Globes speech, and sources told CNN's Brian Stelter that she is "actively thinking" about launching a presidential bid in the 2020 election.

Today on "The Alex Jones Show", McInnes told Jones that he was anxious about the possibility that Winfrey would run for office until he talked to political operative and Infowars contributor Roger Stone, who McInnes said told him to imagine "the kind of skeletons this woman has in her closet" that would prevent her from running and "relax".

It's tempting to see all this attention paid to Oprah and say, "Hey, at least she'd be better than Trump".

"I know her very well".

Winfrey appeared on CBS's "This Morning" in October to talk about a story she worked on as a correspondent for "60 Minutes". "She would absolutely do it".

In September, columnist John Podhoretz wrote in the New York Post that Winfrey is "uniquely positioned, should she wish to commit herself, to seek the Democratic nomination for president and challenge Trump in 2020".

On the other hand, I could argue that she should be disqualified simply on the basis of her promotion of "The Secret", a multimedia juggernaut that claimed that the entire universe and every moment of human experience are governed by "the law of attraction".

Asked what advice she would give a political outsider looking to run for president, press secretary Sarah Sanders declined to engage.

"It's up to the people", Winfrey's longtime partner, Stedman Graham, apparently told the LA Times inside the ceremony. "But now, she doesn't have a choice". What's missing? Experience in government, a demonstrated grasp of public policy, political skills, including the ability to negotiate and compromise across partisan and global lines, and, most of all, a desire to serve. "If she runs, she will destroy anyone in front of her".

This Quinnipiac University poll was conducted from March 2-6, 2017 among 1,283 voters.

But there is little indication that the 63-year-old actually wants the job.

She followed up, "No, that won't be happening, but I mean, I did used to think, well gee, you had to know so much more than I thought you had to know".

Becoming the first black woman to accept the Cecil B. De Mille lifetime achievement award, her speech wove together gender, poverty and race. The person emphasised that the star had not made up her mind about running. "But I don't know a lot about politics".

Like Trump, Winfrey would approach the electorate as a billionaire media celebrity with an intense following. "There were Associated Press articles, London Guardian [sic] articles, ABC News articles, videos, as well, that they pulled eight years ago, seven years ago, when this news came out".
