US Could 'Conceivably' Return to Paris Climate Deal

"The Paris Agreement as drawn, and as we signed, was very unfair to the United States", Trump said at the White House during a joint press conference with Norwegian Premier Erna Solberg.

Trump announced in June that he was pulling the United States from the Paris accord, calling it "less about the climate and more about other countries gaining a financial advantage over the United States".

Trump said the Paris agreement was very unfair to the United States because it imposed penalties and took away many US asset values.

But Trump also said he has "no problem" with the agreement, "but I had a problem with the agreement that they signed, because as usual, they made a bad deal".

"We could conceivably go back in", Trump said. "Working with countries, whether it's Russian Federation or China or India, or any of the countries that surround this world and encompass this world, is a very good thing." he said. "We are very strong on the environment". Mueller and congressional committees investigating the matter have yet to reach a conclusion about whether any collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation took place.

Former President Barack Obama signed the agreement in 2016 with 195 other nations, which all voluntarily agreed to cut greenhouse gas emissions to fight climate change. "So we could conceivably go back in". He also stated that the current agreement "took away a lot of [the country's] asset values".

The formal process for exiting the Paris Agreement takes several years, and the United States therefore remains a party to the deal, which sets a goal of limiting average global temperature increases to "well below" 2C since before the end of the century. Of course, again, this belief is betrayed by the reality of the situation - specifically regarding the man Trump appointed to run the EPA, Scott Pruitt, who has spent most of his career attacking the EPA and attempting to restrict its imposition of regulations to protect the environment. "I feel very strongly about the environment".

The president emphasised that he is not going to let the Paris agreement to deny the USA competitive edge. "I'm not going to let it happen".
