Trump's in 'excellent' cardiac health? Heart specialists disagree

President Donald Trump points at a sign that reads

Asked by CNN's Jim Acosta whether he said he wanted more people to come to the United States from Norway, Trump said, "We want them to come in from everywhere, everywhere".

The Navy doctor exhausted reporters' questions during an unusually lengthy hour-long session, at Trump's request, and said he did not withhold any information in the interests of privacy.

The examination took place on Friday toward the end of a week in which Trump's mental fitness for the job had come under intense scrutiny after a controversial book, "Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House", portrayed him as a childlike and mercurial.

Past presidents are not known to have been tested for mental acuity while in office - including Ronald Reagan, who five years after leaving the White House in 1989 was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, an incurable, degenerative brain condition.

"I'm really thrilled, and happy they made a decision to use it over other tests". Sample questions include asking the patient to draw a clockface, putting in all of the numbers and setting the clock hands to a specific time. Jackson said he would increase that dose in an effort to get Trump's so-called "bad" cholesterol, or LDL level, below 120; it now is 143.

Several mental health professionals who have not examined the president have speculated that he might be suffering from early-stage dementia or have some other mental health issue.

He also reports the 6-foot-3 president weighed in at 239 pounds - three pounds heavier than he was in September 2016, the last time Trump revealed his weight to the public. Jackson says Trump's heart exam was normal, with regular rhythm and no abnormal sounds.

Mr. Trump will be encouraged to lower the fat and carbohydrate content of his diet, and will be encouraged by his wife, Melania Trump; his eldest daughter, Ivanka Trump; and his doctor to get moving.

Jackson credited the results to genetics.

He said Trump had healthy cardiac results according to a CT scan and blood tests, though he took Crestor to lower his cholesterol. Jackson said Trump has avoided some big heart risks - he's never smoked and isn't diabetic - and has no family history of heart problems.

Jackson said he will work with Trump to exercise more over the coming year, to eat better and lose between 10 and 15 pounds.

When a reporter asked if he thought Trump was fit enough to carry out this presidential term, Jackson said yes, and added he would be fit enough to carry out a second term if he were elected. She said: "Why did NBC give him a show for a decade on TV". As the President's physician, Jackson travels with Trump on almost all of his trips and works in close proximity to Trump on a daily basis.

A spokeswoman for the first lady said she didn't attend the women's event because she 'had a previous engagement'.
