Tears and pain; Day 2 as Nassar victims share impact statements

A victim of Larry Nassar, the former USA Gymnastics team doctor who pleaded guilty to seven counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, confronted him Tuesday, and she's chosen to forgive him.

Victim's started to read their impact statements directly to Nassar, 54, in court on Tuesday. For numerous women, this marks the first and possibly only time they will have the opportunity to speak with him directly.

"You were first arrested on my charges and now as the only non-medical victim to come forward I testified to let the world know you are a repulsive liar".

The former team doctor pleaded guilty in November to seven counts of criminal sexual conduct in Ingham County in MI.

"Little girls don't stay little forever", Stephens told Nassar.

After 30 years as an osteopath with the US gymnastics program, Nassar is now in prison serving a 60 year sentence for the possession of child-porn.

"They grow into strong women that ... destroy your world".

Stephens described how she told her parents about what he had done and how he denied it, causing her family to initially doubt her accusations.

Maroney, who alleges she was abused by Nassar, signed a non-disclosure agreement past year which, according to reports, means she faces a fine if she speaks publicly about the allegations.

These gymnasts' stories are only a tip of the iceberg when it comes to the horrors being discussed during Nassar's sentencing, and hopefully with the support of people like Chrissy Teigen, previously silenced victims like Maroney will also be able to share their stories, and see justice done for all.

Ingham county circuit judge Rosemarie Aquilina is expected to order a sentence on Friday.

Prosecutors are seeking a sentence of 40 to 125 years.

As we reported, McKayla Maroney filed a lawsuit in December 2017 against USA Gymnastics for unlawfully making her sign a non-disclosure agreement as part of a financial settlement she received to pay for psychological treatment after being sexually abused by the team's doctor Larry Nassar for years. Stephens said she largely blamed her father's suicide on the shame and self-loathing he felt for defending Nassar.

Olympic gold medallists Simone Biles, Gabby Douglas and Aly Raisman have also claimed they are victims of Nassar.

Nassar is scheduled to be sentenced in two weeks.
