Swatting Suspect Set for First Appearance in Sedgwick Co. District Court

The man accused of "swatting" a Wichita, Kansas, home - resulting in the shooting death of a 28-year-old father of two on December 28 - has been charged with involuntary manslaughter, reporting a false alarm and interference with a law enforcement officer, according to The Wichita Eagle. He was also charged with giving false alarm and interference with a law enforcement officer. Barriss is now being held on a $500,000 bond.

Tyler Barriss will make his first appearance this afternoon in District Court.

If convicted of involuntary manslaughter, Barriss could face up to 11 years and three months in prison, depending on his criminal history, Bennett said. Barriss has also been accused of making a false alarm, a felony.

According to jail records in Los Angeles, Barriss was released to Kansas authorities at 8:53 a.m. It has gained traction in recent years among online gamers. Instead, Andrew Finch, 28, opened his front door when he saw police lights outside and didn't know why. Police said Finch was given commands to keep his hands raised, but he reached toward his waist multiple times before being shot.

Bennett could not immediately say why Finch's address became the target of the hoax call. Finch appears to have no connection to the game or the dispute arising from it. Just one week before the deadly Wichita call, Barriss reportedly called in a false threat at a Calgary woman's apartment.

Eyewitness News has learned that Tyler Barriss is coming to Kansas. Responding to a realistic-sounding 911 call, Calgary police believed a man had been shot and two others were being held hostage in the home.

Police report that Barriss made the initial emergency call, stating that he had killed his father and was holding the rest of his family hostage.
