Sorry men, scientists say ibuprofen may be bad for your testicles

The diagnosis and treatment for these problems is usually much easier than with women, but it's still a notable increase over the past that is cause for concern.

Ibuprofen, a drug used to treat fever and pain, has been found to have a negative impact on the testicles of young men.

Ibuprofen is a common over-the-counter drug that helps with pain and inflammation. So, for the time being, I would urge men who need to take ibuprofen to continue to do so. These are the findings of a new study published on Monday in the journal "Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences".

Data from almost 450,000 patients has linked five forms of painkillers - ibuprofen, celecoxib, diclofenac, naproxen, and rofecoxib - to heart problems.

Ibuprofen may be linked to male infertility, a study has found, and although the effects were reversible the long-term effects are unknown.

"People taking over-the-counter ibuprofen should not be concerned by this research". The other half took a dummy (placebo) tablet. Before he stepped down in November 2016 "he asked players about their use of over-the-counter painkillers and found that almost half of those who played in the past three World Cups took anti-inflammatory drugs, such as ibuprofen, every day", says The Guardian. But there were indications that something was off. Tissue in the male brain senses the level of testosterone and, if it's too low, produces luteinizing hormone, which stimulates the testes to make more.

At the same time, the ratio of testosterone to luteinising hormones decreased, which is a sign of dysfunctional testicles. Last year, scientists found out that sperm counts in western countries had declined by 50 percent in less than 40 years.

But the amount and frequency of ibuprofen use in the study is fairly atypical-the maximum recommended dosage of 1,200 milligrams per day every day for two weeks.

As a follow up from this study, the team went on to look at the effects of Ibuprofen on young men, explained Jégou.

On a positive note, the disorder remains totally reversible when the ibuprofen is taken over a brief period, Bernard Jégou, a co-author at French National Institute of Health and Medical Research, told CNN.

The best way to address a low testosterone level is with artificial hormones.

The condition is normally seen in older men and smokers, and is caused by the body having to boost testosterone levels because normal production in the testes is insufficient.

The study's findings come at a time when male infertility has become a big issue.
