The first band of snow arrived overnight through the morning.

North Iowa remains under a wind chill warning through 10 a.m. Tuesday, due to a combination of cold temperatures and strong northwest winds. Students on their way back to the University of IL in Champaign-Urbana faced a Tuesday forecast of 3 degrees with a -14 wind chill.

Subzero temperatures and dangerously cold wind chill values will greet early-risers on Tuesday in Topeka and northeast Kansas. This is risky as frostbite could occur in less than 30 minutes on exposed skin when it's colder than -18.

Risky and potentially life-threatening conditions will persist for people and pets through mid morning Thursday, the NWS reports.

Plenty of broken cloudiness along with a few flurries will linger tonight into Tuesday with highs only in the teens and wind chills just below zero.

The National Weather Service warns Hoosiers of the possibility of frostbite and hypothermia. Make sure you wear a hat and gloves, dress in layers, and cover exposed skin.

The second band of snow is expected to affect the evening commute. Total snow accumulations of up to one inch are expected, with locally higher totals of up to two inches.

The winter weather advisory for metro Atlanta has expired, however, you should still watch out for black ice. Be prepared for snow-covered roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving. Another very cold night is in store tonight before milder air moves in. This could create hazardous travel conditions through the day. Others waited until early Tuesday morning.
