The Seahawks obviously weren't anxious about those obstacles, because multiple reports (including Alex Rozier of KING-TV in Seattle) on Monday said Norton will be Seattle's new defensive coordinator. The 49ers issued the following statement via NBC Sports Bay Area: "Last week, Ken was presented with an opportunity to once again coordinate a defense". "Because of how we feel about Ken as a coach, we understand and respect his desire to pursue the position".

On January 8, the San Francisco 49ers hired Ken Norton serve as the assistant head coach - defense/inside linebackers on Kyle Shanahan's staff. According to the National Football League network, Norton's contract contains an out clause allowing him to return to Seattle. He took on the role of assistant head coach at USC in 2009.

Norton was sacked by the Raiders before the end of last season and joined San Francisco because of his relationship with coordinator Robert Saleh.

The Vikings' offensive coordinator still has to finish the playoff run with his team, but according to the network's source, the Giants will offer him the job when he becomes available.

There is no word on what may happen with Richard, who has been the Seahawks' defensive coordinator since 2015.

This will be Norton's second stint with the Seahawks.

The financial details of the contract are unknown as of the moment, but Norton's deal with Seattle is a surprise twist to the 51-year-old former linebacker's intriguing offseason.

Mike Garafolo of NFL Media reports that Norton is expected to be the next defensive coordinator for the Seahawks. He is the first coach let go after winning a game in the most recent postseason since the 49ers fired Steve Mariucci after the 2002 season.
