Man rams armored personnel carrier into shop, steals wine

Russian man smashes stolen tank into supermarket

A Russian man in the far-northern Murmansk region crashed an armored personnel carrier into a supermarket on Wednesday in an attempt to steal a bottle of wine.

According to Reuters, local townspeople said the man appeared drunk as he stole the vehicle from a training ground. He then climbed out of the vehicle's hatch, looked at the destruction, and clambered into the store, where he apparently stole a bottle of wine.

The armoured vehicle - known in the West as an M-1970 - is a Soviet era APC created to be fully amphibious. Photos from the scene showed that he crushed at least one auto - a Daewoo. I had to laugh when it was pointed out that the shop was not licensed to sell alcohol at the time of the accident.

Not surprisingly, it's believed the man already was drunk when he chose to take his course of action, the Guardian reports.

Onlookers didn't seem particularly concerned about the sight of a military machine on the sidewalk. The man was arrested without incident.

"Basically some guy stole an armored vehicle... and went into a shop to top up his stocks in the morning", a social media user described.
