Lyon trim PSG's Ligue 1 lead with 2-1 win

Depay scores late winner for Lyon against PSG

Marco Verratti's raking pass sent the France worldwide through on Lopes' goal in the first half of a top-of-the-table clash in Ligue 1 on Sunday.

The Unai Emery's side got themselves down to 10 men in the latter half when Dani Alves earned a red card by squaring up to the referee.

The Ligue 1 leaders were without the services of Neymar, who is nursing a thigh injury.

The victory has made sure that Bruno Genesio's side slid up to the second spot in Ligue 1, making them at the moment just eight points behind the league leaders.

But Lyon saved the best for the very last minute of the game.

Lyon's star man had other ideas, whipping a sensational strike over the wall and out of Areola's desperate reach, the ball kissing the post on its way in.

Edinson Cavani went into the game still needing just one goal to become PSG's outright leading scorer of all time, and the record almost came in spectacular fashion when he fired a first-time 45-yard effort towards goal after the keeper had come off his line to sweep up a through-ball.

PSG came close to equalising in similarly spectacular fashion when Lopes raced out of his goal to clear with his head, only to divert the ball straight to Cavani, who directed a 45-yard lob narrowly wide of the unguarded goal.

The match continued to ebb and flow with sights of goal at both ends, but PSG suffered a blow with 10 minutes remaining until half time when Kylian Mbappe was stretchered off the field following a heavy collision with Lopes. Mbappe had to be replaced by Julian Draxler following a lengthy delay.

Alves stood up a tempting cross from the right wing and his fellow full-back Kurzawa crashed an explosive strike in off the crossbar to send the teams into the interval all-square.
