Las Vegas police say motive for shooting rampage still elusive

From his perch on the 32nd floor of the hotel, Paddock sprayed gunfire for more than 10 minutes down on concertgoers attending the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival on October 1. "We do not anticipate charges being brought forward against Marilou Danley", said Lombardo.

At the podium Friday, Lombardo said he's had sleepless nights over releasing a preliminary investigative report.

Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo released a report on the attack and said he did not expect charges to be filed against Danley.

Paddock is the only suspect in the shooting itself but authorities have sought to investigate if anyone helped him to prepare the shooting assault that was the deadliest in USA history.

That doctor also told police that he believed Paddock "may have had bipolar disorder", but that Paddock did not want to discuss his mental health, "seemed fearful of medications" and refused anti-depression medication.

It was also revealed that Paddock didn't leave a suicide note and did not seem to have any involvement with hate groups.

Unlike numerous other mass killers who have attacked churches, nightclubs, workplaces, schools and other public spaces across the U.S., Paddock apparently left no explanation for his attack.

The doctor offered him antidepressants, but Paddock accepted only a prescription for anxiety medication.

With questions still unanswered about the shooter's motive and whether he had help, Las Vegas police are due to provide a public update Friday about the investigation of the October 1 shooting that left 58 people dead and hundreds injured on the Las Vegas Strip. Other friends and family members told police that Paddock claimed to consistently feel ill, in pain or worn out, but Paddock's physician told investigators that Paddock's only major ailment was a muscle tear from a slip-and-fall incident in a casino three years before the shooting.

The report stated Paddock stayed in three different units at the Ogden downtown during the time of the Life is handsome festival. In the days before the attack, Paddock sent her a $100,000 wire transfer.

The report doesn't include a clear motive, but Lombardo said the shooter had lost a lot of his wealth in the days leading up to the shooting.

Paddock searched areas around Venice Beach in Southern California and Fenway Park in Boston via Google Maps on May 18.

Two months before the shooting, in August, Paddock had booked a reservation at a Chicago hotel and specifically requested a room overlooking the outdoor venue of Lollapalooza, a major music festival. Subsequent search terms, per the Times and Los Angeles Times, included "Las Vegas high rise condos rent", "do police use explosives", and "How crowded does Santa Monica Beach get?"

But Lombardo said the FBI has "an ongoing case against an individual of federal interest". CNN previously reported that Paddock's brother was charged with possession of child pornography. The same computer was used to search for the height of the Mandalay Bay, how to remove hard drives from laptops, the location of gun shows in Nevada and information about several other Las Vegas casinos.
