James, Curry voted captains, to draft NBA All-Star Game teams

LeBron says we cannot let racism 'conquer us as people'

James received 2,638,294 fan votes while Antetokounmpo was just behind on 2,530,211.

Cleveland Cavs' LeBron James has been named a starter for the 2018 NBA All-Star Game.

Stephen Curry (L) and LeBron James (R) of the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers will get to pick which players they want on their squads. Durant has a strong case for winning the MVP over the first half of the season, and he's being rewarded with a starting spot in the All-Star Game. While fan votes account for 50 percent of the vote total, National Basketball Association media members hold 25 percent of the vote while National Basketball Association players possess the remaining 25 percent. As opposed to past years when All-Star uniforms were designated by either the East or West, this year's will feature each player's team's logo on the front and name and number on the back. That means, in the NBA's new format, he'll get to select his teammates, though Eastern Conference captain LeBron James gets the first pick, since he got the most fan votes. James' appearance will mark his 14th consecutive NBA All-Star start, the longest such streak in NBA history (Bob Cousy-13). The first round will be for the starters that were announced Thursday. He was sixth in player voting and seventh in media voting.

The captains were determined by who were the top two vote-getters, and Steph Curry earned the title as a team captain this year.

The remainder of the starters from the Eastern Conference will be Boston's Kyrie Irving, Toronto's DeMar DeRozan, Philadelphia's Joel Embiid and Milwaukee's Giannis Antetokounmpo. He is accompanied by New Orleans' versatile star, Anthony Davis, and another Warriors star, Draymond Green.

Instead, the final All-Star rosters will be announced at some point before the All-Star Game tips off in Los Angeles on February 18.

The reserves, voted upon by the head coaches in each conference, will be announced Tuesday, and the rosters, selected by James and Curry, will be unveiled next Thursday.
