Palestinian protesters clash with Israeli security forces on the eastern outskirts of Gaza City near the border with Israel

At least 17 Palestinians have been killed and thousands more injured in the wave of protests that have gripped the West Bank and Gaza following Trump's decision, with hundreds of Palestinians voicing their indignation with the move every week after Friday prayers.

Two Palestinian youths have been killed in clashes with Israeli troops in the Gaza Strip and occupied West Bank, the Palestinian health ministry says. Naser Qados, Omar's cousin, said soldiers who had erected a checkpoint at the entrance to a village opened fire on protesters who were throwing stones at them.

A Palestinian teen from the Gaza Strip was killed east of the Burij refugee camp after a live round was sacked into his chest, the Wafa news agency quoted medical sources as saying.

Continuous construction of Israeli settlements in the West Bank is believed to be one of the main obstacles in the path of the decades-long conflict.

In the meantime, witnesses told KUNA that the Israeli occupation forces detained three young Palestinians at the northern entrance of Bethlehem, and two others in Beita which the Israelis declared a closed military zones.

The killing of the Israeli settler happened on Tuesday near the illegal Israeli settlement of Havat Gilad, where the 35-year-old rabbi resided.

Continuing demonstrations in the Gaza Strip follow President Donald Trump's announcement last December that the United States would recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

In an annual press conference with foreign press held Wednesday, Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, stated that the government and Knesset headquarters will be in Jerusalem, regardless of the peace negotiations' results, Sputnik new agency reported.

He instructed the State Department to start preparations for the transfer of the US Embassy from Tel Aviv.

But Palestinians, who see East Jerusalem as their own future capital, have continued their protests, first daily, and now every week on Friday.
