Intel fabricates 49-qubit test chip for partner QuTech

Intel Addresses the Elephant in the Room
CEO starts the Intel briefing the right way

The Consumer Electronics Show which is now taking place in Las Vegas was therefore considered flawless by Intel to share some of its future plans in the field and the company announced that over 2 million cars from BMW, Volkswagen and Nissan will be used to crowdsource data. Intel's CEO, Brian Krzanich, delighted audiences with his ambitious vision of the future, ideas that have percolated throughout CES 2018. The company's emergence in this area is no surprise, given it bought Mobileye, an autonomous auto software firm, for $15 billion past year, but Intel seems to be making progress, demonstrating a auto with 12 cameras and a 180-degree field of view, letting the vehicle "see" up to 300 metres ahead.

The U.S. firm also announced partnerships with Chinese automaker SAIC Motor and digital mapping company NavInfo to develop automated vehicles, and map roads, in China.

The power of data is going to change a lot of things we do in the coming years. "That is why we built Intel Studios, which is the most advanced data-driven content creation studios", Mr. Krzanich said.

The technology around self-driving cars is rapidly evolving. In the past, we have told you about the company's brain-like Loihi chip.

Krzanich spent the rest of his keynote reiterating some of the investments Intel has made in technologies created to improve live sporting events and movies.

In addition to Intel firmware updates, the Meltdown and Spectre flaws also generally require operating system updates. Those maps would then be used by autonomous vehicles for navigation.

Cloud-computing, virtual environments, multiuser servers-also used in data centres and enterprise environments-running these processors are also impacted. Intel shipped its first 49-qubit quantum computing test chip ("Tangle Lake") to research partner QuTech.

The unveiling of Intel's 49-qubit test chip follows an announcement from IBM in December that it had developed a prototype 50-qubit machine. Intel's neuromorphic research prototype chip ("Loihi") is now fully functioning and will be shared with research partners this year. Krzanich showed off another new chip during his keynote, and it's a doozy: A 49-qubit chip for quantum computing. The underlying technology to make this future a reality already exists today, " he said as he showed a video of himself flying in a Volocopter, a single-passenger electric helicopter made in Germany that uses Intel technology. This will be done using Intel's True VR solution both for on-demand events as well as live ones.

While the Winter Olympics in South Korea will be the first to get a full VR broadcast powered by this technology, Intel also announced a new partnership with Paramount to start an exploratory project on volumetric content.

Intel, like other manufacturers, have been busy exploring the possibilities of quantum computing, which discard the traditional binary ones and zeroes for superpositional states that can represent several additional values.
