Hawaii emergency officials: Alert of ballistic missile threat was mistake

Twitter/@rveIvts

Hawaii is the closest U.S. state to North Korea. "At breakfast everyone got an emergency alert with sirens that we had less than 10 minutes to seek shelter because a ballistic missile has been launched at Hawaii".

"I can't paint anything good on this", Miyagi said.

According to Hawaii News Now, the alert went out at 8 a.m. and was confirmed over Twitter to be an error within 15 minutes, but cellphone screenshots show a delay of almost 40 minutes between the original alert and one confirming it was a false alarm.

"What was on my mind was the well-being of the people of Hawaii, and my family's obviously in Hawaii, and I know families all across the state, over a million people getting this text message alert, wondering immediately, where do I go?" It said. "If you are outdoors, seek immediate shelter in a building". "I've been talking about this threat from North Korea for years". "We tried to Google shelters and find somewhere to go, but there wasn't any information or plan". Hawaiian authorities clarified the mistake, and assured everyone that there was no threat. The people of my home state live with this. "They should accurately be aware that this is not a threat but a reality". "He's not taking this threat seriously".

A spokesman for the United States military Pacific Command said a short time ago that it "detected no ballistic missile threat to Hawaii" and that the message warning had been a mistake.

Sen. Brian Schatz of Hawaii said the false alarm was "human error".

FCC chairman Ajit Pai says his agency will also investigate how the alert message was sent.

"We're still waiting on the details", said Gabbard, when asked how such a message could have gone out. Earlier message was sent in error.

Ige issued a statement via Twitter at 2:34 pm local time, saying he wanted to "get to the bottom of this so we can prevent an error of this type in the future". "Bring us peace, make a deal".

Justin Thomas, the PGA Tour player of the year, tweeted, "To all that just received the warning along with me this morning ... apparently it was a "mistake"?? hell of a mistake!"
