Gillian Anderson Confirms 'X-Files' Season 11 Is Her Last

A still from

This certainly seems to suggest that Season 11 will offer some finality to the story of Dana Scully and Fox Mulder (David Duchovny); especially since the show's initial six-episode return ended on a tense cliffhanger, as Mulder was near-death after contracting the contagion threatening to ravage the planet.

While some fans couldn't possibly imagine Mulder without Scully, series creator Chris Carter isn't so sure that the series is finished after the upcoming season airs.

Longtime X-Files star Gillian Anderson says season 11, arriving during the 25th anniversary of the fan-favorite sci-fi hit, will be her last. And the actress said (via Screen Rant), "No, no, I think this will be it for me".

Anderson stated, "I've said from the beginning this is it for me". "I was a bit surprised by people's [shocked] reaction to my announcement", she tells TV Guide, "because my understanding was that this was a single season".

When asked why she chose to return for Season 11, Anderson explained, "Because it felt like it wasn't over".

According to TV Insider, Carter had planned an open-ended conclusion for Season 11. We're in the business of scaring and entertaining people - you write things and you either get the thumbs-up or your hand slapped, depending on the parameters. "The truth is out there". It was, however, not good enough to save his life.

Find out how their fight for survival unfolds as "The X-Files" season 11 premieres on January 3, Wednesday, 8 p.m. EDT, on Fox. Their only hope lies in William, the son they gave up for adoption 14 years ago.
