'Flash' Movie to Be Directed by 'Spider-Man: Homecoming' Screenwriters

Now, it looks like Warner Bros. has finally found Famuyiwa's replacements as Variety is reporting that John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein are in negotiations to direct the film.

Best known for their acclaimed work on Spider-Man: Homecoming, both Daley and Goldstein have also accrued writing credits on Horrible Bosses and Game Night, indicating that Warner Bros.is eyeing a comedic tone for its long-gestating Flashpoint movie.

Ben Affleck (The Batman?) had been approached about the gig, too, but ultimately chose to decline, leading the studio to appoint John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein at the helm.

Actor Ezra Miller, depicted above as the Flash in 2017's Justice League, is expected to reprise his role for Flashpoint, which is projected for a 2020 theatrical release. They also wrote and directed 2015's "Vacation", before penning last year's "Spider-Man", which earned more than $880 million worldwide. Starring Jason Bateman and Rachel McAdams, the film, which blends the thriller/comedy genres, is set to hit theaters across the nation on February 23. His screenplay reportedly survived the transition though, with Rick Famuyiwa of Dope taking the director's role, before leaving himself in October of previous year. Previously, Chris Miller and Phil Lord, Seth Grahame-Smith, and Rick Famuyiwa were all at one time attached to direct, after which time names like Robert Zemeckis, Matthew Vaughn, and Sam Raimi were being bandied about.

If the deal makes they will take on a script by Joby Harold, who did a page one rewrite baking in the comedic elements.
