The engineer who was sacked by Google after he criticized its diversity policies claims in a lawsuit that he and others at the internet giant were harassed over their conservative political views.
The 161-page complaint filed Monday on behalf of James Damore and another former Google engineer depicts Google as an elitist company that shuns employees who dare to deviate from a liberal agenda embraced by its management and most of its workforce.
The class action suit is the brainchild of James Damore, who Google fired a year ago after he penned a 10-page screed suggesting that women are "neurotic" and under-employed in the tech industry because of "biological" reasons. Now, he is suing his ex-employer for allegedly discriminating against white, conservative males whose views contrast those of Google execs.
"When it comes to diversity and inclusion, Google's left bias has created a politically correct monoculture that maintains its hold by shaming dissenters into silence", it read.
This isn't much of a surprise, considering Damore publicly hired Harmeet K. Dhillon, the Republican National Committee's Committeewoman for California, back in August as his attorney. Screenshots of internal communications provided in the complaint show widespread discriminatory attitudes at Google, including from employees responsible for hiring and promotion. The duo claims that Google discriminates against white male conservatives.
His lawsuit says the company's "open hostility for conservative thought is paired with invidious discrimination on the basis of race and gender" - that is, Caucasian and male. The lawsuit seeks non-monetary, monetary, and punitive compensations.

Damore has since because a cause celebre among right-wingers - and has filed a proposed class action law suit in Santa Clara County Superior Court in California. Google denied those claims to NBC News. He chose to write the controversial memo, called "Google's Ideological Echo Chamber", after realizing that there would be no action to address his concerns. Peer bonuses are given by fellow employees, but have to be approved by Google's "Recognition Team".
The suit features an image of an e-mail from Alex Hidalgo who works at Google who explicitly told Damore that he was a misogynist and that he would harass him until one of them was sacked.
"We look forward to defending against Mr Damore's lawsuit in court", said a Google spokesperson when asked for comment.
Damore became a media mainstay after penning a highly controversial 3,300-word memo arguing against Google's perceived culture of political correctness. In internal discussion boards, multiple employees said they supported firing the author, and some said they would not choose to work with him, according to postings viewed by Bloomberg News.
