Erykah Badu Receives Backlash Over Hitler Comments

Adolf Hitler Erykah Badu Bill Cosby

"I'm a humanist. I see good in everybody", she adds. "I saw something good in Hitler", she said.

Erykah Badu, in an interview with Vulture, discussed how she avoids groupthink and tries to figure out things for herself. It has a page on its website tallying his bigoted remarks, including saying the US Federal Reserve is run by the Jews and it was "apparent that there were many Israelis and Zionist Jews in key roles in the 9/11 attack". When he asked her to explain what was good about the man who cold-bloodedly killed over 6 million people she said, "Hitler was a wonderful painter". Musician Erykah Badu seems to think that he should get credit for being a good painter because he wasn't always a vile person.

"Marchese pushed Badu on the statement, causing her to relent that "[Hitler] was a awful painter". She said she could understand how any child, including her daughter, could grow up to do harmful things if they were subjected to an environment in which they are treated poorly.

"I mean, I'm not Muslim, I'm not Christian, I'm not anything; I'm an observer who can see good things and bad things", she went on.

She didn't sing any of her hits, but rather a freestyle verse that basically went, "Give me some moneyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!"

What Ms. Badu is describing here is not Mein Kampf-quoting, Seig Heil-saluting, "Hilter-was-right"-ism".

"Hurt people hurt people", the R&B star continued. Upon being asked about her support for Louis Farrakhan, and his alleged anti-Semitism, Badu says she chooses to "see all sides simultaneously".

How can one see any good in a monster like Adolf Hitler?

"I'd gone to Palestine and journalists asked me, 'Do you believe in Louis Farrakhan? But if he's sick, why would I be angry with him?"

You can read the full interview on Vulture. I want them to feel better, as well. "I know I could be crucified for saying that..."

While speaking about Cosby and the dozens of sexual assault allegations he's faced over the past couple of years, Badu said: "Because I love Bill Cosby, and I love what he's done for the world".

In another section of the interview, Erykah spoke about Cosby and how she didn't want to make judgements about him.
